Brick Lane is currently now sometimes referred to as "the curry mile" or Banglatown because of its place as the home to many Bengali immigrants. While this is true today, it was not always the case. The Bangladeshi community is really the third wave of immigrants to make Brick Lane their home. On this tour we will hear about others who made their mark in the area and indeed the City of London over the last four centuries. This tour will include a 2 hour tour of Brick Lane and the immediate area.
Not only will we explore the history, culture, of the neighborhood but we will also enjoy the food and famous street art of this ever changing East End capital. On the tour, we will visit a few shops opened by immigrants in the community and partake in some of the traditional and non traditional foods on offer!
Following the walking tour, we will travel to my home and together cook and eat a three course meal inspired by the three main immigrant communities who made Brick Lane their home over the last three centuries. After our fun cooking lesson we will sit down and enjoy the meal together and reflect on the lovely day.
